The integrated model incorporates information from the previous models and makes a further theoretical understanding of burnout concepts. By looking at its antecedents, the progression of burnout can be understood more easily. This includes excessive training with academic and work anxieties that could lead to attitude fluctuations and decreased motivation, which can then progress into complete burnout identified by emotional and physical fatigue, moods of decreased achievement, or sport devaluation. The maladaptive results of burnout involve the limited or complete removal from sport or weakened immune function. The model also states entrapment has an important impact with factors like extreme sport commitments, social isolation, unidimensional athlete individuality, and performance-centered self-esteem. Finally, the integrated model describes that some character, coping, and social situation aspects like perfectionist behavior, trait anxiety, and low autonomy, have shown to effect the burnout progression in athletes.
